Town Hall on Affordable Housing
Canada’s National Affordable Housing Program was cancelled in 1993. As a result, this country has lost more than half a million units of affordable housing that would otherwise have been built. And now, despite the promise of real change from the Prime Minister, Canada still does not have a national affordable housing program.
With aging social housing stock, loss of affordable housing units in the co-op sector due to expired operating agreements and only a short term fix for existing co-op housing whose agreements are set to expire, what action must the federal government take to address this ongoing affordable housing crisis?
